Tanuki x Graph Zero Sumi Overdye Sashiko

We have been working on this collaboration with famed denim makers Graph Zero from Kojima for over two years. Together, we cooked up a special sashiko fabric that has quite a few tricks up its sleeve. Made from soft and silky supima cotton, this sashiko fabric was rope dyed with natural indigo and then overdyed with Japanese sumi ink. It's a dense fabric at first that will slowly reveal its stunning texture with some wear. At 14.5oz, this fabric is perfect for every season. The depth and sheen of this fabric are second to none and it's a painstaking process to find the right cotton and natural indigo so that the sumi overdye actually takes. From a geeky, technical standpoint, this fabric is a true marvel which can only really be appreciated in person. We so many setback because of supply problems caused by COVID that we can hardly express how happy with are with the final result.

Graph Zero, which is creative in design, and Tanuki, which is proficient in denim dyeing technology, combine the strengths of the two brands to the extreme through the fusion of ink dyeing and over-dying and special thorn weaving!

Considering that the finished product must have both coloring performance and comfort, after a long period of selection, the soft Pima cotton is finally selected as the raw material for the sashiko weave, which brings an unexpectedly smooth wearing feel! The black and bright ink dyeing wraps the indigo dyeing inside. With the accumulation of wearing time, the two colors will intertwine to produce an amazing color fading performance.

In addition to the presentation of the fabric development and dyeing process, this joint model also rarely uses ink-dyed deerskin in the classic two-character leather label part of Tanuki, adding more interesting details.
