India is world-renowned for its artisan craft of woodblock printing, which artisans spend their lives honing to perfect. Each printing plate is carefully hand-carved from wood chips by a master craftsman, just like this shirt, each color needs to be customized for different printing plates for use.

Since the overlapping and interlacing of the pattern or the blank space must be printed and pressed by each craftsman, this also makes the pattern of each shirt have the possibility of change and its uniqueness.

Information

This season's Arp Camo fabric is our best representation of traditional Indian handcraft yet. For the base fabric, we sourced a beautiful khadi cotton canvas with a tight, uniform weave that has a hint of the quintessential irregularity. Khadi is a hand loomed fabric central to India's heritage. It uses dumbby hand spun yarns that are then hand loomed into a beautifully irregular fabric. The fabric is then printed with a bold camoflauge that we designed based on the artwork of Hans Jean Arp. Each shape in the camo is reminiscent of a piece of Arp's work, whether it be a collage, sculpture, or painting. Individual wood blocks are hand carved for each color and then carefully stamped, which gives the dynamic, slightly off-register print. The shirt is finished with replica BDU buttons. Made in India.
