ONI DENIM
【ONI DENIM】2516P-14KBE 14oz G3 Low Tension Type II Denim Jacket
This is a fabric that goes back to 20 years ago when ONI first debuted. It is a 14oz low tension woven original fabric produced by ONI on a G3 shuttle loom. This was at the time the best selling denim before Secret Denim was released. It can be considered a signature of ONI’s work.
What sets this apart from other 14oz denim is the organic distribution of the unevenness. The way the slubby warp present on the fabric almost feels like it is grown out of the denim. Looking at the inside, the weft features a good amount of slub sits horizontally. It has natural stretch marks of slub all over. But not at all too contrasty that you feel like it is going to be loud.
With the slow and valuable production capacity of vintage shuttle looms. The lead time to make this denim takes up to 8 months. Total it takes more than a year to finalize the productions. With this limit ONI hasn’t been reproducing this fabric for some time.
This time around ONI decided to bring this fabric back in 2 versions, one with beige weft and one with black weft (double indigo). The lime yellow thread on the 14KBE creates a nice contrast against the background of this earthy dark blue fabric.
This is a perfect denim jacket for the hotter months of the year and will fade uniquely like no other. You will be able to feel the wind breeze through this low tension weave and stay comfortable most of the time. This is something we particularly enjoy in the subtropical weather of Taiwan.
"The first ever jeans I created 20 years back is this 14oz original ONI denim. The prototype of this denim was so textured that the defect rate of the fabric is above 50%. The G3 shuttle loom used to weave this denim frequently shut down due to the super low tension setting to achieve a desirable effect. Back then I had to reduce the texture level by 50% to make it possible for production.
We have avoid reproducion of this denim as we focus on creating new/heavier fabric in the past few years. As time goes by, we feel there is the need for lighterweight denim. We decided to bring it back to life in 2 setting that were never done before. One with beige weft and one with black weft."

General Care & Precautions
Please note that all indigo product including raw denim can “bleed” causing the transfer of indigo blue color from your garments to other surface like white tshirt or light color shoes. The “bleeding” will lessen with wear and after first several washes.
We high recommend you to put all your cloth in a wash bag when doing laundry. Please never use tumble dry on quality goods; never use softener; never use detergent that contain bleach.
If possible, wash your cloth in a low-spin speed to protect the garment.
