【VASCO】Leather Old Drum Bag Brown
Description
This LEATHER WANDER ROLL BAG is part of VASCO’s B.L.W. series. Inspired by the classic Attachment Drum Bag, it has been reworked with proportions that better suit modern everyday use. Its cylindrical body gives the bag a distinctive silhouette, which is why it is also often referred to as a Roll Bag, making it a natural focal point in any outfit.
B.L.W. stands for Baggage Load Wanderlust, carrying the idea of packing your belongings and setting out on a journey. The initials are foil-embossed on the front of the bag, reflecting VASCO’s long-standing spirit of travel.
The bag comes with a detachable leather shoulder strap and can be worn as a shoulder bag or crossbody bag. Once the strap is removed, it can also be used as a clutch or storage pouch, allowing it to adapt easily to different occasions.
The leather used is VASCO’s original OLD OIL LEATHER, paired with solid brass hardware. Although compact in size, the bag has a substantial and richly textured presence. With use, both the leather and hardware will gradually age naturally, leaving behind marks that are unique to its owner.
About the OLD OIL Series
OLD OIL is one of VASCO’s most iconic leather series. The leather is made from full vegetable-tanned cowhide produced in Himeji, Japan. It is hand-dyed using the traditional hill-dyeing method, then finished with Kogashi burnishing and an oil finish, creating a warm handfeel and layered depth of color reminiscent of well-aged antique leather goods.
The hill-dyeing method originated in the Santa Croce region of Italy in the 19th century. Its character comes from artisans gradually applying dye by hand to the leather surface, allowing natural variations in color depth and tone to appear across different parts of the hide. As leather production has become increasingly mechanized, artisans who can skillfully perform this traditional dyeing method have become quite rare.
The traditionally cast solid brass hardware is also treated with an aged finish. Over time, the brass will naturally oxidize and change in color, developing marks of use together with the leather.
About Hill Dyeing
Hill dyeing is a traditional hand-dyeing technique that originated in the Santa Croce region of Italy in the 19th century. Unlike methods that fully dye the leather all the way through, hill dyeing is done by artisans applying dye by hand to the surface of each hide. This allows natural variations in color depth to remain, giving every piece of leather its own unique layered appearance.
Because the dye does not fully penetrate the leather, the surface will gradually develop richer tonal variation and natural luster through use, creating a deeply personal aging character. Today, leather artisans with the skill to perform hill dyeing are increasingly rare, making this process even more valuable.
For this reason, every piece from VASCO’s OLD OIL series may show different color variations, hand-dyed marks, and tonal depth. These are all unique characteristics of the hill-dyeing process and part of the charm that makes each piece impossible to duplicate.
