VASCO
【VASCO】 VS-600 Leather Ring Belt
Description
This Brass Ring Belt features VASCO’s classic solid brass ring buckle design. Without traditional belt holes, the belt can be adjusted freely to your preferred position, offering greater flexibility and comfort.
The belt measures approximately 33mm in width, sitting nicely between casual and refined. It pairs naturally with jeans, chinos, military pants, and work pants, making it a timeless belt that can be worn for years.
The leather used is VASCO’s original OLD OIL LEATHER. Made from full vegetable-tanned cowhide produced in Himeji, Japan, each hide is hand-dyed using the traditional hill-dyeing method. After dyeing, the leather is deeply infused with oil and finished with VASCO’s unique Kogashi burnishing process, creating a naturally uneven depth of color and texture reminiscent of vintage leather goods.
Thanks to the holeless design, the belt can be adjusted freely without being limited by fixed holes. With long-term wear, it will gradually conform to your waist. As the leather ages, the surface will slowly develop more luster, while the color and grain become deeper and richer, revealing the unique aging character of OLD OIL LEATHER.
About the OLD OIL Series
OLD OIL is one of VASCO’s most iconic leather series. The leather is made from full vegetable-tanned cowhide produced in Himeji, Japan. It is hand-dyed using the traditional hill-dyeing method, then finished with Kogashi burnishing and an oil finish, creating a warm handfeel and layered depth of color reminiscent of well-aged antique leather goods.
The hill-dyeing method originated in the Santa Croce region of Italy in the 19th century. Its character comes from artisans gradually applying dye by hand to the leather surface, allowing natural variations in color depth and tone to appear across different parts of the hide. As leather production has become increasingly mechanized, artisans who can skillfully perform this traditional dyeing method have become quite rare.
The traditionally cast solid brass hardware is also treated with an aged finish. Over time, the brass will naturally oxidize and change in color, developing marks of use together with the leather.
About Hill Dyeing
Hill dyeing is a traditional hand-dyeing technique that originated in the Santa Croce region of Italy in the 19th century. Unlike methods that fully dye the leather all the way through, hill dyeing is done by artisans applying dye by hand to the surface of each hide. This allows natural variations in color depth to remain, giving every piece of leather its own unique layered appearance.
Because the dye does not fully penetrate the leather, the surface will gradually develop richer tonal variation and natural luster through use, creating a deeply personal aging character. Today, leather artisans with the skill to perform hill dyeing are increasingly rare, making this process even more valuable.
For this reason, every piece from VASCO’s OLD OIL series may show different color variations, hand-dyed marks, and tonal depth. These are all unique characteristics of the hill-dyeing process and part of the charm that makes each piece impossible to duplicate.
