【Y'2 Leather】KB-140-T Kakishibu Persimmon Tanned Horse Hide Type 1 Jacket
Product Introduction
The Y'2 Leather "KB-140-T Kakishibu Persimmon Tanned Horsehide Type 1 Jacket" is a leather jacket inspired by the classic Type 1 denim jacket from the WWII era, an innovation of using Japan’s traditional Kakishibu dyeing technique on horsehide leather.
The Y'2 Leather "KB-140-T Kakishibu Persimmon Tanned Horsehide Type 1 Jacket" masterfully blends traditional craftsmanship with modern design, making it a high-quality leather jacket that is both stylish and functional.
This jacket is made from 1.5 mm thick horsehide and undergoes Kakishibu dyeing. Kakishibu-dyeing 「柿渋」 is a traditional Japanese dyeing method that uses fermented persimmon tannins. Kakishibu is an incredibly challenging material to use for dyeing. However, Y’2 has successfully applied this unique dye to their signature material—horsehide. This natural material is finished using Kakishibu dye alone, without the use of any synthetic pigments. Since it is a natural dye, it also has a significantly reduced impact on the environment.
After the leather is fully vegetable-tanned, Y’2 infuses it with Kakishibu dye, which highlights any existing scratches or scuffs on the leather. While pigments can effectively conceal these marks, they also diminish the leather’s original feel and texture. Because these scratches and scuffs cannot be hidden with the natural Kakishibu dyeing, they may appear in the finished product.
This leather is known for its high photosensitivity, the leather darkens over time with exposure to light, eventually achieving a unique persimmon-like hue.
The jacket’s minimalist design preserves the iconic features of the Type 1 denim jacket, such as twin pleats on the front and a single chest pocket. To emphasize the natural texture of the leather, the design omits back pleats and side adjuster tabs, resulting in a cleaner and more streamlined look.
The interior is lined with 100% cotton for comfort, while the sleeves feature durable nylon fabric for added wearability. Iron donut buttons on the front placket and cuffs lend a vintage touch to the overall aesthetic.
