Yuketen's Director Yuki Matsuda’s design inspiration with the Yuketen Made in Italy collection was to take classic American footwear styles and meticulously craft them in a historic, artisanal Italian factory nestled in Mount Sibillini, Italy, part of the stunning Apennine Mountain Range.
Classic American Styling + Italian Craftsmanship + Yuki’s Japanese Sensibility and Attention to Detail = Yuketen Made in Italy!
The Maine Guide DB Boot is one of Yuketen's most beloved Yuketen styles. Drawing inspiration from the footwear of early wilderness guides in New England, whose interactions with European traders and indigenous North Americans resulted in a cultural fusion reflected in the boots these guides wore. Combining the comfort of moccasins with the durable outsoles of the modernized West, giving birth to the classic American guide boot.
Yuki wanted to see what would happen if we took this classic Yuketen original and made it in Yuketen's Italian workshop. He loved the result and is excited to present the Made in Italy Maine Guide DB Boots.
The uppers are crafted from Kudu Leather, a robust leather known for its rugged texture, exceptional durability, and distinct natural markings. Sourced from the hides of kudu, a large African antelope, this leather naturally embodies strength and durability, yet retains a luxurious suppleness. The unique grain patterns and marks on the leather not only signify its genuine origin but also contribute to the boot's individuality. Each pair, marked by the character of Kudu Leather, becomes truly one-of-a-kind, appealing to the discerning man who values substance as much as style.
Handcrafted in Italy using Genuine Moccasin Construction, this technique involves enveloping your foot in leather by wrapping the leather from underneath, like wearing a thick, comfy, leather sock. Yuketen's original pattern is different from standard moccasins, we use more leather on the vamp. While this requires additional leather, it ensures a comprehensive wrapping around your foot, providing a snug and comfortable fit, in contrast to the shallower feel of standard Genuine Moccasin Construction.
Additionally, these boots are equipped with double-bottom (DB) construction. You could imagine that the original moccasins worn by the indigenous North American people were not so durable with just one layer of leather underfoot. Double-bottom construction adds another layer of leather under your foot, increasing the durability / lifespan of the moccasin but also adding a little protection, cushioning, and support.
The Yuketen insole is impeccably constructed with full vegetable-tanned leather, a leather tuck with shank, memory foam and arch cushion. This construction ensures an exceptional fit and reduces foot fatigue by forming a stable bridge between the heel and ball of the foot. This design promotes even weight distribution across the foot for all day support. As you wear the boots, the insole will gradually mold to the unique contours of your feet, providing the perfect, custom fit.
The Cortina sole was developed as a tribute to the 1956 Winter Olympics held in Cortina, Italy. Crafted in Italy, this sole is a blend of rubber and cork, making it both durable and lightweight. Its design includes strategically placed lugs for superior traction and effective shock absorption. This innovative sole offers the lightness akin to modern EVA foam soles, while its robust compound continues to provide excellent grip over time and is sufficiently dense to repel sand and water. The unique composition of this rubber, enriched with cork, aids in shock mitigation. The sole is designed with pronounced and tactile lugs, enhancing stability across various terrains such as sandy paths, forests strewn with branches, swampy grounds, muddy or icy riverbanks, and even slippery surfaces like docks and boat decks.
