Zetto stands as the flagship denim of Tanuki, renowned for its captivating fading pattern within the Japanese denim realm. It was among the pioneering fabrics crafted 15 years ago. Now, Tanuki reintroduces it in a refined form known as 'Zetto Benkei,' an evolution of its original fabric. Drawing inspiration from the legendary samurai 'Musashibō Benkei,' celebrated for his resilience and loyalty, these jeans emulate the steadfastness and style he embodied.

Fabric
Milled on the original shuttle loom responsible for its creation 15 years ago, which remains the sole machine capable of producing it, the output of this fabric is exceptionally limited. Tanuki opts for Texas cotton, similar to that favored by prominent American jeans manufacturers of yesteryears, as its base. This rough and durable cotton softens with wear, providing the perfect foundation for the fabric's irregular surface. The yarns undergo rope-dyeing, submerged in pure indigo six times, albeit at an accelerated pace to achieve a slightly lighter blue tone. This allows the weft to subtly reveal itself a bit more onto the surface. The light beige weft, derived from the buds of the Japanese pagoda tree, imparts a soft yellow-beige hue. This light yellowish ecru weft lends a vintage sepia tint and texture to the fabric, enhancing its subtle appeal.

The comfort of Tanuki’s creations stems from the fabric's extra low tension weave, making this mid-heavy fabric feel surprisingly light and breathable—ideal for hot summer days.
