ONI Asphalt Denim
At a time when Japanese selvedge fabrics are in short supply, this denim finally returns after two years of waiting. We heard once it sells out again, it could take up to 36 months before it can be restock.
Asphalt Denim is one of the newer fabric developed by ONI Denim’s founder, Oishi-san. After more than a year of dedicated research. It’s a true statement piece—bold, experimental, and, as its name suggests, it carries a look and feel that closely resembles asphalt.
Unlike typical heavy weight denim jeans that rely solely on ultra-thick yarns and extremely low-tension weaving, Asphalt is crafted using highly irregular slub yarns and a secretive weaving formula that produces this exaggerated texture. This type of yarns are made at a small family owned spinning mill who supplies exclusively to ONI and for this fabric. Combined with a deep indigo dye, the result is a surface that mimics the rugged character of asphalt pavement. White cotton slubs burst through the fabric, unevenly scattered like snowflakes, adding layers of visual richness.
Look closely and you’ll notice that no two sections of the fabric are alike, everything is random and organic. The indigo dye penetration varies dramatically due to the yarn irregularity, creating highs and lows of color intensity—making this possibly the most irregular slub denim ever produced.
Like most ONI jeans, the fabric feels coarse at first but gradually softens with wear, becoming more comfortable over time. One thing to note: Asphalt denim has more stretch in the weave than usual, so we recommend sizing down one from your regular size. If you don’t like your jeans too snug, your true size will also work.
ONI 288 fit
ONI Denim 288: The 288 fit is a regular straight cut with a comfortable mid-rise. It offers a classic, timeless silhouette with a bit more room in the thigh, flowing straight down from the knee. It is versatile for wearing smart or casual, pairing well with almost any type of shoes. It has a relaxed but tailored look that is suitable for most body types.
Mr. Oishi-san named it "asphalt denim" because its texture is like an asphalt road. Oishi-san had received many compliments from those who have seen this denim in person. They say things like “amazing” “wonderful” “I definitely want one!” and so on.

Hemming will take 3~4 working days.
Once an item is been hemmed, it will not be eligible for return or refund.
For the length on sanforized raw denim, it is recommend to add 2-3cm in length considering the shrinkage after first wash.
For unsanforized denim, we normally would offer them in rinsed condition, hence there is no need to consider shrinkage.
