Description

This style is crafted from ONI’s new 13.5oz long-slub denim. Despite its midweight construction, the fabric has a remarkably rough and irregular surface. Reminds us of the almost “demonic” texture expression found on ONI DENIM’s earliest jeans models from 25 years ago.

Unlike most commercial denim today, where the slubiness often appears as finer vertical streaks. The LS13.5 fabric features a far more irregular and organic surface. Conventional modern denim is typically softer to the touch with less variation, resulting in a look that feels more contemporary rather than the vintage aesthetic of early American denim.

For this long-slub denim, ONI utilizes thicker long-slub yarns in both the vertical indigo warp and horizontal white weft. This creates a subtle crosshatch texture reminiscent of early American denim.

Because the fabric is slowly woven on traditional vintage power looms at the extremely low tension ONI is known for, it achieves an unusually pronounced surface with dramatic highs and lows.

At 13.5oz, the denim is still at a comfortable midweight level that works well year-round. When looking up close, the texture is anything but sublime.

What is Slub in Denim?

What is Denim Cast?

The LS13.5 is a red cast denim, which is usually achieved by using pure indigo dye. A red cast denim will have reddish or purplish shine or hue when looking up closed. This is most noticeable at new or before the first wash. The fading of this type of denim tends to develop brighter blue with a clean white and blue hue.

“The reason ONI Denim is named ‘ONI’ isn’t just because of the demon face graphic on the pocket flasher. It’s because the first model ONI presented to the Japanese stores. The comment they got back was that they never saw anything this unique, very much like a demon’s face in Japanese folklore.

Because of the mid weight setting, this fabric also wouldn’t look too exaggerated. Making it just right as a classic dark indigo jeans. ”

222 Fit

The ONI 222 is a super-wide straight silhouette with a high-rise waist, offering a roomy yet structured fit that looks visually bold. The 222’s extra-wide leg opening provides super easy movement and airflow for comfort. Despite its generous volume, it somehow maintains quite a clean and streamlined look. The is a modern wide fit that is rare amongst Japanese denim realm. And it also goes well with vintage inspired styles.

How Much Do ONI Jeans Stretch in waist?

ONI denim stretches relatively quick. You can expect the waist to stretch by at least 1 inch after the first day to one week of wear. With approximately 20-30 wears, the waist will stretch up to 1.5+ inches.
