We are thrilled to announce the reproduction of the masterpiece, the "Asphalt" - a remarkable heavyweight Japanese selvedge denim. Crafted by the renowned Oishi-san, this 20oz denim elevates the slub and nep design to extraordinary levels. Its standout feature is the pronounced slubbiness of the yarn, paired with a distinctively neppy texture. This combination results in one of the most textured fabrics we've ever seen, . The yarn's variable thickness contributes to a distinctly uneven, bumpy, and irregular surface, highlighted by striking white cotton formations known as "neps." These neps are formed during the low tension weaving processes that caused some of the cotto yarns to extend and protrude through the fabric surface. The original fabric was so neppy that at the factory checkpoint had to pickout the too exaggerated neps and keep it clean as a finished product.

In terms of fit, the "266 Asphalt" is ONI's Relaxedr Straight style. This design ensures a comfortably spacious fit throughout the thighs, knees, and calves, while maintaining a classic straight cut.

Fabric

Over the course of a year, ONI developed another new denim, that exeeded the limited of our known denim world.

It is a tough, rough, dark-colored indigo denim, structured with a thick thread which is twisted especially for this fabric, woven with ultra low tension. Mr. Oishi-san named it "asphalt denim" because its texture is like an asphalt road. Oishi-san had received many compliments from those who have seen this denim in person. They say things like “amazing” “wonderful” “I definitely want one!” and so on.
