ONI DENIM
【ONI DENIM】200-HCSV 8oz Selvedge Chambray Wide Straight Jeans
With summer approaching, ONI has revisited their popular indigo chambray from previous years and taken it a step further—developing a rare double-dyed selvedge version. Intentionally woven with irregular cotton yarns, this fabric breaks away from the typical flat and smooth impression of lightweight chambray cloth. At 8oz, it strikes the perfect balance: breathable yet substantial, offering a vintage look that's easy to wear in warm weather.
What is Double Dyeing?
Double dyeing refers to the process where both the warp and weft yarns are dyed, resulting in a fabric that shows color on both the front and back—or even contrasting tones between the two. This is in contrast to the usual single-dye approach, where only the warp or weft is colored (as seen in most denim and chambray). The result is a more playful and unique fabric, especially in its raw form, with tones that differ from typical chinos. Thanks to the doubled dye content, the fabric promises a richer, more dimensional fading character as it ages.
What is a Chambray?
Traditional Chambray is a lightweight, breathable plain-weave fabric that looks similar to light denim but feels much softer and more comfortable to wear.
It’s traditionally woven with colored warp threads and white weft threads, giving it a subtle, slightly textured matte finish with visual depth.
Originally developed in 16th-century France, chambray has long been favored for its durability and airy feel, making it a go-to fabric for warm-weather garments like shirts, dresses, and workwear. Depending on the weave density, it can lean either formal or casual—making chambray a versatile fabric that blends practicality with timeless style.
“BETACHAM”
In Japanese, there’s a word “ベタな” (beta-na), which conveys the idea of something plain, uniform, or lacking variation. Traditional chambray fabric is typically woven with colored warp threads and white weft threads, giving it a textured, two-tone look. However, in this case, both the warp and weft threads are the same color, resulting in a fabric that doesn’t look like typical chambray. Because the overall tone appears flat and uniform—almost as if the fabric were fully painted in a single color—it was named “BETACHAM.”
“Chambray is most commonly used for classic-style shirts. Seeing it applied to pants, especially with a double-dye setting, is genuinely intriguing.”

General Care & Precautions
All primary-color denim and blue-dyed products may cause dye transfer. Please pay attention to the contact of new products with light-colored clothing and furniture. This phenomenon will gradually improve after the first few washes.
We recommend adding a laundry bag to all laundry; never drying; never using softener; and never using laundry detergents that contain bleach.
It is the most recommended way if you can wash with soft wash and low speed function. Please note that all indigo product including raw denim can “bleed” causing the transfer of indigo blue color from your garments to other surface like white tshirt or light color shoes. The “bleeding” will lessen with wear and after first several washes.
We high recommend you to put all your cloth in a wash bag when doing laundry. Please never use tumble dry on quality goods; never use softener; never use detergent that contain bleach.
If possible, wash your cloth in a low-spin speed to protect the garment.
