The ONI Kiraku II “鬼樂” might be the lightest denim you've ever encountered, especially if your collection primarily features jeans from Japanese brands. Dyed with natural indigo in Japan, it boasts a deep indigo hue designed to fade beautifully and uniquely. The Kiraku II is an upgrade from the already popular first generation Kiraku. Although the differences might not be immediately noticeable, they enhance the overall quality of the fabric. 

The vintage machines used to produce Kiraku denim are specially adjusted for ONI to create a super low tension, contributing to the denim's soft, slubby handfeel, which is a signature of this denim. The weave is so loose that light or sun beams can pass through the jeans when you see it against the light. This is likely the most breathable denim we've ever encounter. Despite this airy characteristic, the denim remains rigid and strong, thanks to a blend of Peruvian cotton and long-staple pima cotton. Moreover, the rarity of jeans dyed with natural indigo adds to their allure. The use of specially blended pima cotton yarns dyed with natural indigo makes the Kiraku jeans particularly intriguing. Since cotton can have a significant impact on the outcome of indigo dyeing, variations in cotton types or countries of origin can lead to markedly different results.

Natural Indigo

Rope-dyed natural indigo denim has become increasingly rare, as only one mill in Japan is currently capable of producing it. Moreover, there are fewer denim makers and designers today who can create compelling work with these specialty yarns. Using natural indigo in the warp and white in the weft, these jeans fade in a subtle, organic manner—starting with a deep, earthy indigo that gradually evolves into brighter blues over time, or even creamy tones depending on the weft color. Rope-dyeing preserves the undyed core of each yarn, resulting in beautiful, high-contrast fades that differ significantly from the more uniform appearance of hand-dyed or hank-dyed natural indigo.

Bio Bleach

Bio Bleach is gentle on fibers and acts selectively, targeting mainly indigo dye while causing minimal damage to the cellulose itself. In contrast, traditional chlorine bleaching involves harsh chemical reactions that often break the molecular chains of cotton fibers, significantly weakening the fabric and, in severe cases, causing holes or needle marks along the seams. Compared to that, Bio Bleach minimizes the loss of fabric strength.

Bio Bleach breaks down only the indigo dye, preserving the undyed parts of the denim—such as the white weft yarns—resulting in a clear and natural contrast between deep blue and white. This kind of two-tone fading is difficult to achieve with traditional all-over bleaching. Additionally, bio bleaching greatly reduces the re-deposition of dye onto the fabric), allowing the finished garment to appear cleaner and brighter.

222 Fit

The ONI 222 is crafted in a super-wide straight silhouette with a high-rise waist, offering a roomy yet structured fit that's visually bold but not flattering. The 222’s extra-wide leg opening provides effortless movement and airflow, making it ideal for modern and contemporary style. It also goes well with vintage inspired Americana tops. Despite its generous volume, it somehow maintains a clean straight look.
