The latest Hand Dyed Limited Collector’s Edition is designer Oishi-san’s tribute to Japanese craftsmanship and innovation.

Extremely limited: originally planned for 100 pieces worldwide, but due to fabric challenges and strict quality control, only 60 were completed.

Oishi-san continues to explore new dyeing methods. His sumi-dye (black ink) version represents a bold, original experiment. Long before today’s trends in Tokushima indigo and kakishibu dyeing, he was already creating such fabrics over 30 years ago, proving his role as a true pioneer.

This rare piece embodies the union of tradition and fearless creativity, crafted with a level of care that may never be repeated.

Awa Sumi Fabric

Although the fabric is technically on the heavier side at 20oz, it does not feel bulky or hot when worn. In fact, the hand feel is closer to around 15oz, thanks to the combination of ultra-thick hand-dyed yarns and an extremely low-tension weave, which creates a distinctive texture with surprising comfort.

The ink-dyed and indigo-dyed fibers are intricately interwoven. While traditional Awa hand-dyeing does not usually create strong contrast, the nature of ink dye, much like indigo, allows it to fade over time. With wear, the fabric gradually develops grey tones and layered fading, revealing a unique depth and character.

ONI 270 fit (275 fit)

Updated from the ONI 288 fit, the new 270 fit is a refreshed regular straight cut with a comfortable high rise. The rise is slightly higher than the 288. It offers a classic and timeless silhouette, with a bit more room in the thigh than the 288, then falls straight from the knee down. The leg opening is slightly narrower than the 288, creating a subtle taper that still reads as a clean straight fit. The 270 is versatile enough for both smart and casual wear, pairing easily with nearly any type of footwear. It has a relaxed yet tailored look that works well on most body types.

How much does ONI stretch in the waist?

Typically around 1.5 inches / 4 cm in waist circumference. Some pairs can stretch up to 2 inches / 5 cm. In general, you can expect ONI jeans to stretch about half a size more than most other Japanese denim brands. If you carry more weight around the stomach, it is better to choose the safer size. If you are lean through the midsection, a more fitted size usually works well.
