To create the perfect heavyweight T-shirt, Freenote worked with a long-established knitting mill in California to develop a custom 9oz cotton jersey. The fabric is made with open-end carded cotton yarn, giving it a dry handfeel, irregular texture, and distinctly vintage appearance.

Freenote also places great importance on color. After nearly a decade of collecting references and searching for the ideal shades, the brand developed a custom color palette exclusively for its T-shirts. Each color is specially formulated, garment-dyed, and washed to achieve the desired saturation, depth, and naturally worn-in appearance.

Although the T-shirt carries a strong American vintage character, the fit does not overly emphasize the body. Instead, it is designed to create a balanced and flattering silhouette. The substantial 9oz fabric and slightly relaxed fit make it suitable for year-round wear.

Developing the fit required years of adjustments. Because knit fabric naturally moves and stretches, achieving the right proportions with limited seams can be surprisingly difficult. The final silhouette strikes a balance between slim and boxy. Unlike a tubular T-shirt, its side-seam construction provides more shape from the chest through the hem.
