TANUKI
【TANUKI】Heavy Black T-shirt Night Sky Natural Sumi Ink Dye
After much anticipation, the reissue of Tanuki's heavyweight knitted short T-shirt has finally arrived. The ink-dyed "Sunny Sky" and the naturally dyed "Deep Sea" have both returned. Tanuki, always known for their creativity, showcases their energetic weaving prowess with their unique fabrics. By enhancing the contrast between the thickness of the slub yarn, they simulate the feel of hand-spun yarn. The thickness also takes into account durability, and it is not easy to loosen or deform after long-term wear and washing. The color will transform into more layered with the accumulation of wear time. The spinning, rope dyeing, and knitting are all completed in their own old factory. Friends who have previously given up or want to try different dyeing techniques should seize this opportunity.

A classic T-shirt silhouette with a slightly wider and longer body. We created a brand new and very robust material of the highest quality. It's a slub yarn that intentionally creates thinner and thicker parts to evoke a feeling of hand-spun yarn. This results in a unique look with a lot of texture. We used a count 8 yarn which is really thick for a t-shirt. This sturdy material will withstand countless washes and keep its shape. We used different shades of sumi (Japanese black ink) to rope-dye this fabric which gives it great variations of black shades with lighter gray freckles within. Like all our fabrics, this material is completely made in Japan – spinning, rope dyeing, knitting, and processing are all done in one of our small mills. You can expect great fades with this fabric that we've christened GYOTEN (暁天): the night before sunrise. These shirts are built to last to the highest standard in Japan: finished with chunky blue side seams, reinforced black ribs at the neck, and the classic embroidery on the right shoulder.
