Gara Spinning Machine
The single rib knit fabric recreates the texture of garments once made from Gara spinning yarns. “Gara spinning” refers to yarn produced on old spinning machines that made a rattling sound. These machines, now obsolete, lacked precision, which resulted in yarn with natural unevenness. What was once considered an imperfection has become the very quality that gives the fabric its distinct look and feel.
This piece uses a custom slub yarn to capture the desired character, woven into a dense 11.8 oz single rib knit with a rich, uneven texture. To ensure durability, the shoulders and back neckline are reinforced with anti-stretch tape. The button placket and buttonholes are also strengthened with cotton tape construction.
