ONI DENIM
【ONI DENIM】207-HOX-OLB 13oz Sulphur Dye Heavy Oxford Olive Green Baker Pants
Description
Crafted by Mr. Oishi, this heavyweight oxford cloth brings together the rugged spirit of workwear with a clean, urban sense of style. The fabric has an olive green tone with a subtle beige cast, and its color shifts beautifully depending on the light. Both the mill and Oishi-san spent a great deal of time fine-tuning the shade, resulting in a color that feels modern while still carrying a strong sense of nostalgia.
What makes it especially unique is the combination of sulfur dyeing and a specially developed one-wash process. The fabric has the substantial hand feel of something closer to 17–20 oz. But when you actually put it on, the comfort feels like 12–13 oz.
Sulfur Dyed
For the dyeing process, this fabric does not use the more common piece-dyed method. Instead, it is made using a traditional yarn-dyeing process, where each yarn is dyed before the fabric is woven.
This method takes more time, more labor, and comes at a higher cost. The depth and complexity of the color are something modern dyeing methods simply cannot replicate. With wear and washing, the rich olive green will gradually fade into a softer vintage olive tone, developing the kind of texture and character that’s found in vintage workwear pieces.
Oxford Weave
Beyond its color, this oxford cloth also stands out for its rare weave and fabric weight. It is woven in a 2x2 oxford structure and comes in at an unusually heavy 14 oz, far beyond the weight of a typical shirting fabric. The result is a fabric with visual depth and a substantial hand feel.
Because an usual selvedge loom could not handle such two-ply thick yarns, the fabric had to be woven on specially adjusted machinery. The final result is an oxford cloth with both visual impact and serious technical achievement, built to be durable, distinctive, and unlike anything else you can find.
Final Production Notice
Because of the sulfur dyeing method used for this fabric, achieving the exact color is extremely difficult. The final outcome is often unpredictable, requiring a great deal of time, trial, and material cost.
For that reason, this sulfur-dyed version heavy oxford will be the final production run. Future versions will move to a more stable reactive pigment dyeing process.
